The 'My Life Is...' Phenomenon

Everyone involved in the online community has heard of fmylife.com, this site which allows anyone to publish their cringe-until-your-face-hurts stories on sex, mishaps and accidents.

A couple of days ago a friend introduced me to mylifeisaverage.com. This site, as it turns out, is the antidote to life and it's horrors. This site is for people to report that their lives are filled with tiny moments that make them smile. The geek rules supreme and one realises after a couple of pages that the human race isn't horrifying, nor is the world a terrible place to live.

Today I discovered MLIA's sister site - mylifeisg.com. This site completes the spectrum of 'My life is...'. People use this site to report amazing, life-altering, happy-making things, usually with a cheesy theme, such as 'I realised I'm beautiful' or 'My boyfriend proposed'. Despite my initial cynical feelings towards this final site, after further reading, I realised that this is a forum for people's unabashed happiness. It ought not to be frowned upon.

In fact, these three sites - with the simplest format and simplest mission - provide relief in any situation. Feeling foolish? Laugh at other people's misfortune on fmylife. Feeling  disillusioned  with society? Love the quirkiness of MLIA. Watched the news and horrified at the bleakness of the world? Observe people's moments of happiness on mylifeisg!

Whatever your feelings on the online community, one cannot deny that some sites provide a valuable resource; these three are no exception. Whatever your feeling, or if you just want to waste some time, there is a place in cyberspace to go to feel good.
